Dialogi de Repub. Venetorum – Giannotti – 1631 | Elzevir Printing, Engravings
1631 Elzevir edition of Giannotti’s work on the Venetian Republic, in Latin, with six engravings, engraved title, and a supplemental tract, bound in period leather in miniature sextodecimo format.
Dialogi de Republica Venetorumi by Donato Giannotti was first published in 1540 and was one of the best sources for the history of Venice through the mid-1500s. While this book serves as a historical description of Venice, it was also written as a defense of republicanism and the government used in Venice in hopes of influencing Florence to adopt a similar style of government. This 1631 edition was published by Elzevir and includes folding engravings.
