The Bachelor of Salamanca – Alain René Le Sage – 1767 | Irish Nobility Ownership
Alain René Le Sage’s The Bachelor of Salamanca (1767), in two duodecimo volumes, features the comic memoirs of Don Cherubim, printed in English by Richardson and Urquhart and preserved in full original gilt leather.
The Bachelor of Salamanca by Alain Rene Le Sage is an adventure novel following the life of Don Cherubin de la Ronda, a young Spanish adventurer. While not as popular as Le Sage’s more famous Gil Blas, The Bachelor of Salamanca proved to be desirable comedy of misadventure even if in the shadow of Gil Blas. This 1767 second edition was published in two volume by Richardson and Urquhart.
Worth noting, this particular example was owned by an Irish noble!
