Works of Hesiod – 1591 | Hesiodus Theogony in Greek & Latin | Tooled Vellum
A 1591 Leipzig edition of Hesiod’s Opera edited by Johann Ramus, presenting the Theogony in Greek with Latin translation, bound in vellum.
A rare 1591 Leipzig printing of the works of Hesiod, a Greek poet who is thought to have been a peer of Homer. Only three surviving works have been attributed to Hesiod, of which, Theogony is the most famous. Theogony describes the origins and genealogies of the Greek gods, beginning with the first gods through the children of Zeus and the life of Prometheus. Hesiod had a profound effect on early Greek philosophy, early rhetoric, and the development out of archaic religious beliefs. This edition also includes the lesser-known but no less important Works and Days and Shield of Heracles.
