Dante’s Purgatory and Paradise, from the Divine Comedy, is one of the most famous works of allegorical literature; a work that has referenced and reworked for centuries. Henry Cary’s English translation is considered one of the most popular translations of the work, though that may be attributed to the artwork of Gustave Dore that is regularly found with Cary’s English.
