Image Gallery Description & Details

George Cruikshank’s Omnibus first appeared in London in 1842 as he sought an outlet for his art that he had complete control over. The result was his Omnibus which contained numerous comedic articles, essays, and even short stories such as “How to Raise the Wind” by Frederick Marryat and “Little Spitz” by Michael Angelo Titmarsh. Cruikshank’s art appears throughout including both full-page steel engravings and in-text woodcuts. This first edition copy was rebound in red morocco leather with a gilt spine, but original green cloth cover has been retained and mounted at the end.
