Cartes et figures des voyages by John Hawkesworth is the scarce 1774 Paris first edition of the separate atlas volume related to the French translation of his official account of British South Seas exploration. Printed by Nyon l’aîné and Mérigot le jeune, the work includes all 52 engraved plates. These illustrated the discoveries of the expeditions of John Byron, Samuel Wallis, Philip Carteret, and James Cook. Notable plates include a large folding map of the South Pacific with voyage routes, a map of the Strait of Magellan, a map of New Guinea, the ship Le Dauphin of Wallis, depictions of Tahitian groups, a map of New Zealand, and a portrait of a Māori warrior.

Condition:

Good. Bound in original leather, cracked at hinges with frayed leather at head and tail and rubbed corners. Gilt spine titling and decorations still bright. Text block is shaken but remains secure. Plates complete and tightly bound with light toning and minor foxing in margins. No visible losses or repairs.
