Nicolas Malebranche was a 17^th-century scholar best known for his work “Concerning the Search after Truth” – a book which laid the foundation for 17^th-century philosophical ideas.

Following the success of “Search for Truth”, Malebranche wrote other works that built on the popularity of “Search”. One such work was his book “Christian and Metaphysical Meditations” in which he presents dialogues intended to instruct the soul through God’s Word. For this work, Malebranche drew heavily on Saint Augustine’s idea of man’s dependence on God for our joy and happiness.

John Locke is known to have described Malebranche as “an acute and ingenious author”.
