Her reign as French royalty is often remembered for her involvement in the St Bartholomew’s Day Massacre in which thousands of Huguenots were killed throughout France. During the 16th-century, there was perhaps no other more powerful woman in all of Europe.
Author Henri Bouchot published an incredible 19th-century account of Catherine de Medici filled with absolutely stunning full-page engravings. This 1899 example is numbered no. 257 of 1000, bound in stunning red leather with marbled boards and gold-gilt spine.
