The New Wizard of Oz | L. Frank Baum, 1939 Movie Edition with Denslow Plates

This MGM movie edition of The New Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum presents the fantastical journey of a Kansas girl, Dorothy, after being swept away by a cyclone to the magical land of Oz. Dorothy sets out to petition the wonderful Wizard of Oz to help her return home, aided by her new friends the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion while being harassed by the machinations of the Wicked Witch of the West. The story is accompanied by 15 plates by W.W. Denslow, 8 of which are in color, that were included in the first edition. The tale has inspired numerous adaptations, both for the stage and film; this 1939 printing was published by The Bobbs-Merrill Company to accompany the release of the Metro Goldwyn Mayer film, featuring stills from the movie on its endpapers.

Condition:

Fair. The binding is intact with moderate rubbing to the corners and spine tail. Boards show noticeable staining, rubbing, and discoloration. The hinges are somewhat weak, but the text block is secure. The interior pages are complete, with slight moisture stains to the bottom margins of the plates and occasional smudges. The front pictorial endpapers have provenance stickers and pencil marks, but the rear endpapers are clean and complete.
