Image Gallery Description & Details

This early 19th-century German liturgical work, Kirchen-Agende für die Hof- und Domkirche in Berlin, was published for use within the royal court of Frederick William III and the cathedral church in Berlin. This work contains German prayers, liturgical texts, worship forms, and music and hymns connected to Protestant church services in Prussia. Note the numerous pages of music at the end of the book.

However, the music and prayers are not what make this work so important. King Frederick William III was known for helping design and establish the agenda for the Church of Berlin, and this particular tome was signed and dedicated by the King with an inscription in the prelim blanks.

Royal presentation copies of any books are considered the most desirable and valuable of their kind, and this example is no exception. It even includes royal markings on the back cover with a crown and “FWIII” embossed into the leather.
