Frank Moore’s Women of the War focuses on the bravery and sacrifice of numerous notable women during the American Civil War, many of whom were officers’ wives. While Moore’s portrayals were perhaps idealistic, the accounts exemplify their influence upon the war’s events, such as the Battle of Gettysburg. This first edition includes engraved portraits alongside these short biographies.
Frank Moore was a notable American Civil War historian known for his portrayals of Civil War life and culture. One of his most important works was ‘Women of the War’. While this work focuses primarily on the biographical accounts of individual women, Moore also describes the hardships and sacrifices made by American women during the war and provides an interesting account of how these women influenced Gettysburg.
