Thomas Aquinas was a 13th-century Dominican monk known as one of the most important and influential church fathers and Catholic philosophers. One of his best woks was his commentary on the four gospels of the New Testament, “Catena Aurea”. Prior to Aquinas, Saint Anselm wrote a work entitled “Enarrationes” in the 11th-century – a work after which Aquinas modeled his “Catena Aurea”.
This 1569 edition of “Catena” was published in Antwerp by Joannes Steelsius. An impressive folio!
