Image Gallery Description & Details

In 1485, Le Morte Darther or, The Death of Arthur was first published – the first time the traditional tales of King Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, Merlin, and the Knights of the Round Table finally was available to be read, instead of just told as a mythical story. It is, without equal, the best-known work of Arthurian literature and is a principal source for many plays, operas, and modern stories.

This 1871 edition, published by MacMillan, includes Sir Edward Strachey’s introduction as well as his revision of the 1485 original edition.
