The set was published under the oversight of Mark Twain and became a major commercial and historical success. In octavo format, bound in the publisher’s original leather with gilt titles, this set offers a narrative of Grant’s Mexican and Civil War service.

Remains one of the most important, valuable, and oft-read Civil War memoirs, including the engraved portraits and battlefield maps.
