While other English translations of these popular tales exist, few feature the artwork of the famous Gustave Dore. Dore works are some of the most desirable of all book illustration and those included in this work are some of his most desirable pieces, outside of this Bible scenes.

This undated Cassell edition was translated by Walter Thornbury and features impressive Dore illustrations throughout.

She was also the wife of Col. Charles William Larned (1850-1911), author and professor of Drawing for nearly 30 years at West Point.
