The surrounding area of Mucking is historically notable due to archaeological excavations from 1965 to 1978, uncovering substantial Anglo-Saxon remains including settlements and cemeteries.
- Nicholas Holland was vicar of Mucking and rector of Stifford, Essex in the mid-18th century.
- Zachariah Button belonged to the prominent Button family and commissioned Belmont Castle near Grays, Essex, around 1795; the structure remained until 1943.
