Miguel de Cervantes’s ‘History of Don Quixote’ is one of the most famous works of literature and is one of the most popular adventure tales to be written. This 1742 English first edition is particularly important – translated by Charles Jervas, it was praised as the most accurate English translation through the 18^th-century. Interestingly, it is because his translation of ‘Don Quixote’ that Jervas’ name was changed to Jarvis – due to a printer’s error – and the work has become known as ‘the Jarvis translation.’

This fine, two-volume first Jarvis edition is incredibly rare and considered to be one of the most valuable English printings of ‘Quixote’.
