This bookplate likely belonged to a descendant of Ivor Churchill Guest, 1st Viscount Wimborne, KP, PC (1873–1939), a British politician, first cousin of Winston Churchill, and one of the last Lords Lieutenant of Ireland, serving in that position at the time of the Easter Rising; and Guest’s wife, the Honorable Alice Grosvenor (1880–1948), daughter of Robert Grosvenor, 2nd Baron Ebury. The family may have had an interest in the Gunpowder Plot, as Guest was first raised to the peerage as Lord Ashby St Ledgers in 1910 and acquired the manor house of Ashby St. Ledgers, the site where the Gunpowder Plot was planned.
