Histoire des croisades pour la délivrance de la Terre Sainte by Louis Maimbourg was first published in 1675. It was the first edition of Maimbourg’s chronological approach to the First, Second, and Third Crusades highlighting the events of the 12th-century framed through the context of religious wars in the Holy Land. This work is known to be one of the earliest books to use the term “crusade” to describe these holy wars. Maimbourg, a Jesuit cleric, drew on royal and ecclesiastical sources to write this valuable chronicle.
