1620 RARE Holy Land WOODCUTS Jerusalem Jericho Israel Cairo Egypt Venice Bianco
Noe Bianco’s “Voyage from Venice to the Holy Sepulcher” is a rare early 17th-century travelogue of Bianco’s journey through the Holy Land. In 1527, Bianco set out on a journey that would take him from Venice into the Holy Land and Palestine with numerous stops in locations such as Cyprus, Crete, and Corfu. In 1566, the first edition of his travelogue was published – a work that would see numerous reissues through the next two centuries.
This 1620 edition includes highly coveted woodcut engravings throughout – illustrated views of Venice, Jerusalem, Nazareth, Damascus, Tunisia, Jericho, and many others. The illustrations of animals such as baboons and giraffes are also impressive! Bianco also describes the ports he arrived in, the provisions needed for the journey, and advice to others who intended to take a similar Holy Land voyage.
