John Goodman, a relatively unknown 17th-century English Puritan preacher, published numerous devotional treatises written on forgiveness, Bible stories, Christian ethics, sin and temptation, and much more. One of his works was The Penitent Pardoned, which, as the title suggests, is a discourse on sin, repentance, and forgiveness based on the New Testament parable of the Prodigal Son.
