De Triplici Vita Hominis – Jakob Böhme – 1730 | Early German Mystical Philosophy
Jakob Böhme’s De Triplici Vita Hominis (1730) presents a mystical study of the threefold life of man, printed in the Netherlands in duodecimo format with a frontispiece.
Jakob Böhme was an early 17th-century German philosopher known for his theology which was a fusion of Lutheran traditions and mysticism. In 1621, Böhme wrote his most important book De Signatura Rerum, his approach to the Doctrine of Signatures. Following the success of this, his most important work, Böhme wrote numerous other works of “Theosophia”, or works of divine wisdom.
This volume of De Triplici Vita Hominis, published in 1730, examines the threefold life of man: the natural life, the dark or selfish life, and the restored divine life through Christ. Böhme’s mystical approach links human constitution, fall, and regeneration to the broader drama of spiritual destiny.
