Jakob Böhme’s De tribvs principiis (1730) presents his theological vision of creation, humanity, angels, and divine wrath, printed in the Netherlands.
Jakob Böhme was an early 17th-century German philosopher known for his theology which was a fusion of Lutheran traditions and mysticism. In 1621, Böhme wrote his most important book De Signatura Rerum, his approach to the Doctrine of Signatures. Following the success of this, his most important work, Böhme wrote numerous other works of “Theosophia”, or works of divine wisdom.
This volume of De tribvs principiis, published in 1730, includes Böhme’s writings on humanity’s origin, purpose, and fall, the creation of angels and elements, and the role of divine wrath. Themes of unity, tension, and motion structure his account of existence.
