Peter Christen Asbjørnsen was a 19th-century Norwegian folklorist alongside Jørgen Engebretsen Moe. They focused their writing toward to legends of Norway and Scandinavian lore.
This rare first American edition of Norwegian fairy tales is filled with the illustrations of Danish-American artist Kay Nielson. Nielson is remembered for his role on Disney’s ‘Fantasia’ and was heavily influenced by the works of Rackham, Dulac, and Dore. These color illustrations are regarded as some of best during the ‘Golden Age of Illustrations’.
