In 1892, the famous English poet Lord Alfred Tennyson, wrote a play based on the legend of Robin Hood – “The Foresters.” Performances of this play saw minimal success in the American cities it opened in. It finally saw production in London a year later and was not popular. However, the play was adapted into a musical with music by Arthur Sullivan, and became significantly more prestigious.
