Louis Felicien de Saulcy was a 19th-century French archaeologist whose career focus was on oriental studies and numismatics. All three of these fields came together in one body of research in his book ‘Numismatics of the Holy Land’. In this book, Saulcy recounts his archaeological dig in the Holy Land in which he excavated tombs in Jerusalem. He amassed an enormous coin collection, much in part to a dig in Palestine, and wrote a book on his discoveries.
