Unsure? Ask an Expert!

Phineas Taylor Barnum is remembered primarily for the founding of the Barnum and Bailey Circus, but he was also a writer, politician, businessman and showman, most explicitly shown in the most recent film ‘The Greatest Showman’. This autobiographical work is Barnum’s account of his experiences, but as was known about Barnum, he often exaggerated or expounded on stories he told to further their entertainment value, which we can assume happens here in his autobiographical work often called “Dishonest truthfulness” (Reading).

This 1873 edition of Barnum’s autobiography was published under the title ‘Struggles and Triumphs’ and features impressive, full-page wood engravings of many of Barnum’s circus acts.
