- George J. Tucker was a private in the Massachusetts 60th Infantry, Company H, during the American Civil War. While the unit did not see battle, being only mustered in for 4 months of service, they spent much of that time in Indianapolis “on account of the conspiracy of an extensive organization known as the Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC) or Sons of Liberty”, a secret society dedicated to establishing an extensive country where slavery was legal. The KGC schemed at one point to kidnap Lincoln and used high-ranking government connections to put the plot into motion before it was discovered and stopped. John Wilkes Booth was allegedly a member of this society.
