Thomas Ellis was a 19^th-century British surgeon who served the Union army during the American Civil War. He was primarily remembered for his diary he kept during the war, much of which was published during the war. In this diary, Ellis recounts his experiences at camp and in army hospitals. Some of the most interesting anecdotes come from Ellis’s descriptions of the battles at Bull Run and Harper’s Ferry.
