1863 1st ed John Tyndall on Heat Science Darwin Locomotive Thermodynamics RARE
John Tyndall was a 19th-century Irish naturalist for his travels to Switzerland to study glaciers. His experience in the Alps brought on a co-written work ‘On the Structure and Motion of Glaciers’ with T.H. Huxley. Along with Huxley and Darwin, Tyndall was instrumental in helping the public to accept a modern, scientific approach.
This rare, late 19th-century work, ‘Heat considered as a mode of motion,’ is one of Tyndall’s most famous publications. It is a collection of 12 lectures on the properties and applications of temperature, particularly regarding the locomotive capabilities of heat, delivered before the Royal Institution. Tyndall’s research into radiant heat and its relation to gases and vapors discussed in this book earned him the Rutherford medal in 1869.
