A highly rare first edition of the 19th-century historical narrative of the Indian Mutiny of 1857, ‘Narrative of the Indian Revolt.’ Collectively written by a variety of authors, credit is primarily given to Sir Colin Campbell. In response to the uprising, Campbell was appointed a general over the British Army and the British East India Company to stamp out the rebellion. He successfully led the British Army in India from 1857-1860 until the rebellion was entirely dismantled and was subsequently raised to the peerage as Baron Clyde, of Clydesdale in Scotland. This 1858 first edition is heavily illustrated throughout with nearly 200 engravings depicting important historic figures and battles from conflict.
