“And I am bored to death with it. Bored to death with this place, bored to death with my life, bored to death with myself.”

―Charles Dickens, Bleak House

A rare and beautiful, first edition printing of ‘Bleak House’ by Charles Dickens. This novel is considered to have been modeled after aspects of Dickens real life. According to Eckel,

“…many of the characters in this book were identified as having for their prototypes several of Dickens’s friends.”

A satirical work, ‘Bleak House’ was written with the English judicial system in mind. It is rather easy for the reader to grasp the frustration Dickens felt with such events as human spontaneous combustion taking place. Additionally featured throughout are the illustrations of Hablot Knight Browne, who would become known as ‘Phiz’ in later printings of Dickens’s works.
