This particular issue was printed for the 1841 holiday season in preparation for 1842 and contains many popular works, most notably the first printing of “Eleonora” by Edgar Allan Poe. This work is often thought to be Poe’s autobiography and while still contains dark and dismal elements, it is often thought to be one of his more uplifting works.

 

This edition contains numerous engravings, including many from artist Thomas Sully.
