A fine printing of John Foxe’s famous “Actes and Monuments”. Foxe began working on this landmark work in 1552. While in exile, in 1554, the first examples of this book were published in Latin focusing on the religious persecution of Lollards in England during the 1400s. However, the rest of his book was written in response to more persecution occurring throughout England.
This 1831 first edition is Amos Blanchard’s recounting of the persecution of the protestant Christian church stemming primarily from Fox’s ‘Book of Martyrs’ as well as other later sources. This 1831 edition also includes 24 illustrations!
