Placidus Titi was a 17th-century astronomer whose studies on astrological systems helped establish modern methods. It is generally accepted that he also followed many of studies set forth by Ptolemy centuries earlier. In 1820, John Cooper published ‘Primum Mobile’ – the standard English translation of Placidus’s work. (Holden, p. 178). Holden continues by saying that Placidus was the last major figure of the early modern period of astrology and Thorndike notes him as the ‘patron saint for astrologers in the 17th-century’.
