1800 Arabic Muqaddimah Ibn Khaldun Darwin Philosophy of History Islam Sociology
A rare, journal-style of “The Muqaddimah” written by Ibn Khaldun as an introduction to history. The great fourteenth-century Arab scholar Ibn Khaldûn established the foundations of several fields of knowledge, including the philosophy of history, sociology, ethnography, and economics in this work, with some saying that Ibn Khaldun expressed a theory of biological evolution 500 years before Darwin. His book deals with Islamic theology, law, political theory and the natural sciences of biology and chemistry. This curious volume features decorative borders, vignettes, and chapter headings throughout. This edition of “The Muqaddimah” is bound in a gold embossed Moroccan red decorative leather.
The Muqaddimah, often translated as “Introduction” or “Prolegomenon,” is the most important Islamic history of the premodern world. (N. J. Dawood)
The 20th-century English historian Arnold Toynbee describes his work and philosophy as “a philosophy of history which is undoubtedly the greatest work of its kind that has ever yet been created by any mind in any time or place,”
Robert Flint: “As a theorist on history he had no equal in any age or country until Vico appeared, more than three hundred years later. Plato, Aristotle and Augustine were not his peers. . . .”
