A rare, 18th century Japanese woodblock print of “Shinkan jushi keiraku hakki”. It is one of the first Japanese appearances of a classical work of Chinese acupuncture in wooden movable type and illustrated with woodcut illustrations explaining the centers for acupuncture. The text focuses on Yin and Yang through the arms and legs; circulation of the breath of life through the fourteen meridians; and the eight vital blood vessels. These fourteen meridians became the standard in acupuncture in most schools of medicine, and this text became one of the most important works of Chinese acupuncture to appear in Japan.

This rare, record is written in a column woodblock print format with furigana called Kanbun. This edition is notable as a piece of early printing using movable types. Movable types were employed for only a brief period, which had begun upon the initiative of Hideyoshi at the close of the sixteenth century, inspired by what he had seen in Korea.
