1792 John Hunter Observations on Certain Parts Animal Oeconomy Medicine Surgery
John Hunter was an 18th-century Scottish surgeon, known as one of the best and most important physicians of his time. He published a variety of medical treatises including ‘Observations on Certain Parts of Animal Oeconomy’. Hunter had a collection of animal skeletal remains in which he kept to research anatomy. It was in this book that he described the functions of many animal biological and anatomical traits.
According to Garrison-Morton, this work
“Includes John Hunter’s observations on the secondary sexual characteristics in birds, on the descent of the testis, on the air sac in birds, on the structure of the placenta, etc. together with the original description of the olfactory nerves.”
‘Heirs of Hippocrates’ supports these same claims noting Hunter’s observations of the descent of the scrotum in addition to testicles.
