A rare pocket-size, first edition of the French Constitution from 1791. This brief Constitution was created after the fall of the Ancien Regime and was one of the most important documents to emerge from the French Revolution. Even though it only served as constitution for 11 months, it is now less-remembered for the order it established and more for what it came out of – the turmoil in Paris.

 

This small September 1791 printing was published just a few weeks after the original folio edition.
