Edme-Gilles Guyot was an 18^th-century scientist most-known for his studies on physics and physical magic. He helped establish technology used in phantasmagoria. In his best book, ‘Nouvelles Recreations’, Guyot describes his experiments on how to perform magic tricks and mathematical phenomena including the famous ‘cups and balls’ trick. This book caused a lot of discussion on the existence of ghosts, particularly in the use of smoke and mirrors.
