John Ives was an 18^th-century English historian known for his studies in classical antiquity. One of his best works was his study of Gariannonum, the Roman city in Britain along the Saxon Shore. Also called Gariannonor, this city became the site of wars and heavily guarded by fortifications. Ives’ history contains impressive folding illustrations including maps and antiquity finds. An important history of a relatively unknown Roman establishment in Britain.

 

This particular issue was a presentation signed with notes on John Ives by a personal friend John Bowle. It even includes a note by Ives himself about Bowle’s death.
