1774 1st ed Letters of Ulrich Zasius Martin Luther Erasmus Zwingli Alciati Law
Ulrich Zasius (1461 – 1536) was a German jurist and lawyer. He was most known for his professorship at Frieburg; however, he taught more than jurisprudence. He lectured on rhetoric, grammar, and poetry as well.
This first edition 1774 book is a biography and a collection of Zasius’s works combined. It includes his judicial works as well as a life of Zasius. The most impressive portion of this book is the inclusion of his letters and correspondence with important figures of the Renaissance such as:
- Erasmus of Rotterdam
- Jakob Wimfeling
- Bonifacio Amerbach
- Ulrich Zwingli
- Andrea Alciati
- Martin Luther
- This letter is of particular note. Zasius discusses with Luther the sale of indulgences against the importance of personal confession and penitence of sin. This letter was written in 1520, shortly after Luther displayed his ’95 Theses’ in 1519.
- Willibald Pirckheimer
- Archduke Ferdinand I of Austria
- Balthasar Merklin
- Kaspar Baldung
- Johannes von Botzheim
