A rare printing of Vignola’s ‘Five Orders of Architecture’. Giacomo da Vignola was perhaps the most important 16th-century architect. Originally printed in 1562, ‘Regola,’ as it is often called, was highly successful mainly due to its effectiveness in teaching. It was designed to aid builders and designers in the realization of their architectural projects. It focuses on all five of the major styles (or orders) of architecture – Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, Tuscan, and Roman. (Fabrizio)

This charming 18th-century example was translated into French by Jacques Francois Blondel, the architect to Louis XV King of France. This work is filled with 107 incredible engraved plates. Notable names of contributing engravers in this set include – Babel, Blondel, Chedel, Cochin, Mansart, Meissonier, and Piranesi.
