Unsure? Ask an Expert!

Pieter van Musschenbroek was an 18th-century Dutch scientist known for his numerous physics experiments. He extensively studied the work of Isaac Newton, attended his lectures, and developed many of his own hypotheses based on those of Newton. His experiments were illustrated and thoroughly described in his book ‘Experimental and Mathematical Physics’. This 1756 edition includes impressive engravings showing the details of his experiments on hydraulics, mechanics, optics, and navigation!

According to the ‘Daumas Historical Science’,

“Underlying Musschenbroek’s lectures demonstrated with experiments was the experimental philosophy. The principal source of inspiration was Newton, but Galileo, Torricelli, Huygens, Réaumur, and others were important to this school.”

This tome includes the oft-lacking folding map of the world which features California as an island!
