Claude Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon was an 18^th-century French author. While most of his works are relatively unknown today, one of his most controversial works was ‘Tanzai et Neadame’. This work, which has become incorrectly titled as ‘L’ecumoire Histoire Japonaise’, was a satire on the life and work of Cardinal de Rohan. Ultimately, this book landed Crebillon in prison for his attacks on the Unigenitus papal bull and the Catholic Church.
