“They that know God will be humble. They that know themselves cannot be proud.”

― John Flavel

John Flavel was a 17th-century Presbyterian and Puritan author. He was most well known for his book, ‘A Treatise of the Soul of Man’ which was a protestant devotional written to identify the weakness and shortcomings of the human soul, but also to be a study in offering hope through God. Flavel himself says of the soul:

“The study and knowledge of the soul was always reckoned a rich and necessary improvement of time. No knowledge is better than that whereby we know our selves: leave other matters therefore, and search thy self.”

Flavel also wrote about the differences between angels and humans, declaring that “an Angel is a perfect soul, and an Human is an imperfect Angel.”

This beautiful leather bound book is perfect for ministers and lay persons alike.
