      • Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Edward Archibald Ruggles-Brise, 1st Baronet MC DL (1882 – 1942) was a British Conservative Party politician.
      • He served as Member of Parliament (MP) for the Maldon constituency in Essex from 1922 until his death in 1942
      • From 1927, he commanded the 104th Essex Yeomanry Field Brigade R.A. of the Territorial Army.
      • Ruggles-Brise was a landowner and was the owner of Spains Hall in Finchingfield, Essex, which had been inherited by his father, Archibald Weyland Ruggles-Brise, on the death of his own father, the politician Samuel Ruggles-Brise.

      • Spains Hall is an Elizabethan country house near Finchingfield in Essex.
      • The hall is named after Hervey de Ispania, who held the manor at the time of the Domesday Book in 1086. Since then, the land had been continuously owned and occupied by three families – the de Ispania family, the Kempe family, who acquired it when Margery de Ispania married Nicholas Kempe in the early fifteenth century, and the Ruggles family (later the Ruggles-Brise family).
