1700s French Royal Document Portfolio Leather Royal Arms Fleur-de-lis Binding
A rare and rather unique find – an 18th-century French royal portfolio. Portfolios such as this would have been used to present documents to French royals, perhaps even the king, whether for signing, reading, or approval. This example includes the leather corner-holders used for stabilizing sheets of paper (see photos). Note the French royal arms on the binding – the king’s coronet at the crest and three fleur-de-lis. This particular example contains elements consistently present on the royal French arms used in the early 1700s, possibly by Louis XIV.
