In 1692, German explorer Adam Brand accompanied Eberhard Isbrand Ides on his mission to China. This voyage led the team to meet Emperor Kangxi and begin Russian and Chinese relations, which extended for many years. The contents and experiences of this voyage were recorded by Brand in his only existing work, ‘Voyage of Mr. Evert Isbrand.’ It features descriptions of Chinese and Russian villages, fortifications, and habitants of these locations. Brand’s journal also features an anonymous letter of the present state of Moscow in 1692.
