Martin Lister was a 17^th-century English physician whose studies in natural history greatly influenced his medical practices. And while his medical treatises are certainly his most prominent works, he did write a travelogue of his mission to Paris. In 1697, Lister joined William Bentinck, Earl of Portland on an expedition to Paris as his physician. While in Paris, Lister took time to study Parisian gardens including Versailles. This book, ‘A Journey to Paris’, discusses Lister’s discoveries in France including animals, insects, and plants, as well as his time spent in libraries and iconic Paris locations.
